The Banning Of Movies On Lgbt, Religion, Laws, And History

The recent banning of movies with the reason of them containing homosexual contents have started a wave of ridicule of authorities and their justification. Over the years, several movies were banned in the United States for the same reason as well. Such examples include American Beauty, But I’m a Cheerleader, Rent, Brokeback Mountain, and Bruno. Besides movies, anything and everything else on the media have been closely monitored by the authorities. Authorities in certain countries, especially Middle Eastern countries, have even gone to the lengths of labelling homosexuality as illegal by law. This not only affects the thinking of citizens of those countries, but also oppress people that identify as LGBTQ in those respective countries.†¦show more content†¦Furthermore, the word â€Å"homosexual† is a socially constructed word. According to Creech, sexuality was only explored towards the end of the 19th century through psychoanalysts as they believed that sexual ity helps understand human personality better. All in all, The Bible encourages â€Å"a loving, mutual, caring, committed relationship†. Understanding this, churches are beginning to grow more accepting towards the LGBTQ community (Murphy). Indic religions, or Dharmic religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism, do not express strong opinions on homosexuality. In fact, a third gender is mentioned in an ancient Hindu legal text called Manu Smriti. This excerpt explains the third gender as such: A male child is produced by a greater quantity of male seed, a female child by the prevalence of the female; if both are equal, a third-sex child or boy and girl twins are produced; if either are weak or deficient in quantity, a failure of conception results (3.49).
